1. ask sth about sb/sth 表示“問起關(guān)于某人或者某事的情況”，比如說，He didn't ask anything about his son. 他沒有問起關(guān)于他兒子的任何事情。
2. make one's rounds 原意是“巡視”，在歌詞中的意義跟hang around差不多，表示“停留，逗留”。女孩聽見別人提起從前的男友，為了不讓別人發(fā)現(xiàn)她的憂傷，只能拼命的忍住淚水，try to make tears disappear。
3. 這里over表示“結(jié)束，完結(jié)”，跟ended表示的意義一樣。比如說，Their relationship is over. 他們的關(guān)系已經(jīng)完了。還有 “It's all over with him.” the doctor said. 醫(yī)生說：“ 他不行了。”那么be over sb就表示“和某人已經(jīng)結(jié)束，已經(jīng)忘了某人”。
4. blue 作為形容詞大家知道可以表示“心情憂郁的，憂傷的”。在歌詞中，the blues表示“極度憂傷或者沮喪的情緒”，在口語中很常用，我們可以說，I had an attack of the blues. Or I had the blues. 我覺得傷心極了。
5. paint the town red是一個俚語，表示“尋歡作樂，狂歡”，歌詞中省略了red?？刹皇恰罢麄€鎮(zhèn)子都刷成紅色”的意思。
6. sly 的意思是“狡猾的，狡詐的”，比如說，You sly old devil!你這個老奸巨猾的家伙！sly還可以表示“會意的，會心的”，比如說，She cast a sly glance at her poker partner. 她向玩牌的搭檔使了個會意的眼色。找到離開的理由很容易，但是離開卻很難，需要很大的勇氣和不斷的掙扎。
7. Time heals all wounds. 是一個習(xí)語，意思就是“時間可以治愈一切傷痛。時間是良藥”。歌者當(dāng)然明白這個道理，但是放手之后，感覺像是經(jīng)歷了永遠(yuǎn)。
8. shatter 表示“使某物突然破碎，粉碎”，比如說，The cup shattered as it hit the floor. 杯子掉在地板上摔了個粉碎。在口語中shatter還表示“讓某人的希望破碎”，比如說，The accident shattered all my hopes. 那次事故讓我的希望全部破滅。
9. misery 表示“肉體或者精神上的痛苦，難受”，比如說，He's living in misery and want. 他在貧困中生活。Nobody wants to lead a life of misery. 沒有人想過痛苦的生活。
