摘要:

I am very pleased to have the opportunity to talk about Chinese calligraphy(中國書法), a highly-valued cultural heritage(文化遺產(chǎn)), and its contribution to Chinese tourism(它對中國旅游業(yè)的貢獻(xiàn)).

An ancient Chinese saying goes that (經(jīng)典句式,適合模仿:一句中國古話說的好。。。)"A mountain is famous for the immortal on it, instead of its height. A river is holy for the dragon in it, rather than its depth."(山不在高,有仙則名;水不在深,有龍則靈。)Chinese calligraphyis very different from other forms of writing. During their long history of development, Chinese characters(漢字) have evolved(演變)and been written into many different artistic styles(藝術(shù)形態(tài)), including the inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells(甲骨文)and on ancient bronze objects)(古青銅器), the seal character(篆書), official script(隸書), regular script(楷書), running script(楷書),and cursive script(草書).

Many Chinese characters are pictographs(象形文字)and often the meaning of a particular character is apparent in the pictorial form of the character. Calligraphy, whether done with a knife or brush, can be renderedin ways that exaggerate the form, consequently yielding effects of artistic beauty(產(chǎn)生藝術(shù)美感). Calligraphy, therefore, has been traditionally a subject of artistic study. Down through the centuries(幾個世紀(jì)以來。。。), Chinese calligraphers(中國書法家)have devoted substantive attention to studying the forms, laws, and theories pertinent to the art of calligraphy(傾注了巨大的精力去學(xué)習(xí)和書法相關(guān)的形式,規(guī)則和理論,其中高分詞匯substantive 巨大,pertinentto 與。。相關(guān)). Moreover, their works have significantly influenced  calligraphers of Chinese characters(漢字書法家)in Korea, Japan and Southeast Asian countries. People from these countries regularly visit China in search of calligraphic art.

Traditional Chinese calligraphy has not been influenced by the outside world. As a result, it constitutes a tourist resource. Most of the Chinese tourists areas have numerous(眾多)inscribed tablets, including inscriptions on precipices(懸崖碑銘), horizontal inscribed boards(匾額)and couplets written on the scrolls(對聯(lián)卷軸)hung on the pillars of halls. The Seven-star Cave(七星巖)of Guilin, widely known as a sea of stela(石碑的海洋), contains everywhere inscriptions from various dynasties(不同朝代).
