小編:環(huán)球教育整理 823IELTS 長難句之所以難的一個最重要的原因就是因為太長,導(dǎo)致同學(xué)們讀了后面,忘了前面,不能準確把握住句子的重點。句子長的一個重要原因是因為部分連詞連接了幾個句子或者幾個成分。TOEFL & IELTS 閱讀里常見的連接詞有:and、or、not only?but also、but, 甚至分號等。但這些連詞連接的長成分也不是沒有任何用處,有時候也可以利用它們的邏輯關(guān)系來相互推理所看不懂的半句話的意思,或者直接忽略掉看不懂的部分。
例 1.
Apprentices were considered part of the family, and masters were responsible not only for teaching their apprentices a trade but also for providing them some education and for supervising their moral behavior.
【解析】
難點一:本句是由 and 連接了兩個主干 Apprentices were considered part of the family 和 masters were responsible not only for teaching their apprentices a trade but also for providing them some education and for supervising their moral behavior;
難點二:在第二個主干里,由 not only?but also 和 and 連接了三個 V+ing 作介詞 for 的賓語。
【處理】
由于這兩個半句是由 not only?but also?并列的,因此意思比較接近,看懂任何一個半句里的內(nèi)容即可。
例 2.
Eliminating the secrecy surrounding pay by openly communicating everyone's remuneration, publicising performance bonuses and allocating annual salary increases in a lump sum rather than spreading them out over an entire year are examples of actions that will make rewards more visible and potentially more motivating.
【解析】
該句由 and 和 rather than 連接了四個動名詞短語 Eliminating the secrecy surrounding pay by openly communicating everyone's remuneration, publicising performance bonuses, allocating annual salary increases in a lump sum 和 spreading them out over an entire year 作本句話的主語,因此主語比較長,造成了理解上的障礙。
